Chiefs v Toulon game cancelled:
The scrapping of a proposed pre-season game against French super club Toulon has cost Chiefs a healthy financial windfall.
Both organisations had been working towards a game that would have pitted the Super Rugby champs against the Heineken Cup holders in February.
Chiefs CEO Andrew Flexman says the financial impact is significant.
“It was a very attractive financial proposition for us, what was on the table was Toulon, but the overriding caveat around that is that throughout, as I’ve stated before from the very get-go, the commercial consideration for us were very secondary.”
Andrew Flexman says intense discussions with their All Blacks and the NZRU also contributed strongly to game being abandoned.
